Arrow The 50th Running of the daytona

Racing Mecca
The hard, flat sand of Daytona Beach has lured speed hounds since the turn of the century. By 1956 (above), the annual February gathering, organized by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, attracted several dozen drivers.

Early Years
The beach's long expanse was the perfect testing ground for early drivers to test the outer limits of the power of the automobile. Between 1904 and 1935, 15 land speed records were set on the course's hard-packed sand. In this 1929 photo, British driver Major Harry Segrave sits behind the wheel of his "Golden Arrow" racer.

A competitor in the 1953 race hits a pothole on the beach. The early road course, over four miles long, was notoriously treacherous.

Wiped Out
The south turn, a narrow elbow on the water's edge, routinely claimed a handful of cars.

It took a gas station owner from Washington D.C. to recognize that the annual Daytona gathering could be much more than a race on a beach. In the mid-1950s, Bill France, Sr. seen here in a 1965 photo, began construction on an unprecedented speedway, 2.5 miles long, twice the length of existing tracks.

The Daytona International Speedway
Built a few miles inland from the famed beach racecourse, the new track featured high, banked turns which would let drivers push their cars to the maximum speeds their engines would allow.

Inaugural Race
In the very first race on the fully paved surface, run in 1959, Lee Petty (42) dueled Johnny Beauchamp (73) to a photo finish that took race officials over 24 hours to decide. In the end, they would declare Petty the winner.

Richard Petty
Known as "The King" to legions of racing fans, Petty is NASCAR's winningest driver and a certified folk hero. Perhaps more than any other driver, Petty, shown here next to the 1957 Oldsmobile he drove in the first Daytona 500, brought stock car racing out of the backwoods and onto a national stage.

Race Fans
As the speeds on the track got higher, the audience for Daytona grew. For the 1963 race (above), tailgaters filled the infield to see 50 compete for the checkered flag.

Winged Flyers
In 1970, engineers experimented with a rear wing design. This grouping includes famed driver A.J. Foyt (11), who had been a star at the Indianapolis 500. Foyt and the others in this photo lost that year to little-known Pete Hamilton.

Cale Yarborough
The 1977 Daytona 500 was claimed by the popular Yarborough, his second of four lifetime wins on the track. Before his last, in 1984, he became the first driver to qualify with a top speed of more than 200 miles per hour.

Tempers Flare
Daytona in 1979 is best remembered for the fight that broke out in the infield between Yarborough (on the ground) and Bobby Allison after the race. Yarborough and Allison's brother Donnie had been dueling for the lead until they crashed on the last lap. With their wrecked vehicles sitting on the grass, they began to argue over whose fault it was, when Bobby arrived to defend his brother and fists began to fly.

Pile Up
The shape and design of the Daytona track create a perfect environment for wheel-to-wheel racing. It is not uncommon to see the cars come three-wide out of a turn, which, on occasion, leads to spectacular collisions, as it did in this 1990 incident.

Bobby Allison
The relentlessly optimistic and devout Allison was a fierce competitor on the track. He won at Daytona three times, the last in 1988.

Tragic Loss
Many consider Dale Earnhardt the greatest driver of his generation, though he was notoriously plagued by bad luck at Daytona. The hard-charging Earnhardt did finally take the checkered flag, in 1998, but three years later, a crash on the final lap cost him his life. At a memorial service held after the death more than a thousand fans turned out to honor him.

The Need For Speed
The Earnhardt tragedy led to a renewed call for safety modifications, but did little to dampen the excitement of racing at Daytona. In 2007 Jeff Gordon led a pack that included Mark Martin (01) and Greg Biffle (16). Martin would eventually finish inches behind Kevin Harvick.

Winner's Circle
Kevin Harvick celebrates his 2007 win with confetti and beverages.

Thanks but the title looks like missing

"Şu dünya bir dağ gibidir.
Ona nasıl seslenirsen o da sana sesleri öyle aksettirir.
Ağzından hayırlı bir laf çıkarsa, hayırlı laf yankılanır.
Şer çıkarsa, sana gerisin geri şer yankılanır.
Öyleyse kim ki senin hakkında kötü konuşur, sen o insan hakkında kırk gün kırk gece sadece güzel sözler et.
Kırk günün sonunda göreceksin her şey değişmiş olacak.
Senin gönlün değişirse dünya değişir."
